Header: Wisdom Tooth Removal

Wisdom Tooth Removal

The mouth cavity of an average sized person generally provides only space for 28 permanent teeth. If there are more than 28 teeth, they are most likely wisdom teeth - also called third molars. These are located behind the last teeth – top and bottom. Because of the lack of space, most often remain partially or even completely retained in either jaw or they only grow incomplete in the oral cavity (impacted).

In both cases, wisdom teeth need to be removed surgically. Often, the patients decide to have all four wisdom teeth removed in one surgery. The recovery time for a four-tooth surgery is much less compared to the two separate operations in which the teeth are removed first on one side of the mouth and later on the other side. Patients may request to have the teeth removed singly or in pairs.

The majority of the teeth can be removed under local anesthetic; after the narcotics have taken full effect, a pain-free procedure is possible. However, removal of the teeth can also be performed under sedation or general anesthesia. In sedation, although the patients are awake, they do not experience the intervention as too stressful. After the procedure, patients do usually not remember the performed operation (retrograde amnesia). In general, anesthesia the patient is sleeping so deeply that the patients do not perceive the procedure at all. The respiratory and cardiovascular systems are monitored by an anesthesiologist.

If you decide to have general anesthesia, the procedure is performed in anesthesia practice at the KLINIK am RING. The operation is then performed at the surgical department of the KLINIK am RING. Trained medical staff will ensure the safety and wellbeing of the patients before, during, and after the procedure. The implementation of a general anesthesia surgery in a surgical center offers a much higher level of safety than general anesthesia in conventional medical practices. Our patients are prepared for the surgery in our pre-operative facilities. After the procedure, they are recovering stress free in our recovery room. Aftercare is provided up to 24 hours after the procedure possible.
